About Islam

Islam
Islam literally means ‘to submit to the Will of God’. Islam is not a new religion. We believe that Islam is inherent to human nature and indeed all creation. In fact every child is born with this nature and is thus a Muslim. It is through subsequent conscious means that humans exert their own will in defiance with the will of God. Through their submission to the will of God Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus and indeed all the prophets [May God’s Peace be upon them all] sent by God to guide mankind were Muslim (= adj. Islam). Muhammad, [Peace be upon him] was the last Prophet and Messenger of God.
A Muslim’s creed includes each of the following five ‘pillars’-
Statement of faith in the oneness of God and of the prophethood of Prophet Muhammad
5 daily prayers
Pay a portion of all excess wealth to the poor (‘zakaat’)
Fast during the day hours in the month of Ramadan
If it can be afforded, once in a lifetime journey to Mecca on pilgrimage

Muslims believe in the oneness of God, His Prophets and Messengers, his angels, the life in the hereafter and in predestination.
The Muslim draw their creed and their code of conduct from two sources - the Quran, the revealed word of God, and the Sunnah, the words and actions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. Muslims do believe that God sent other revelations to other Messengers: Jesus’ Gospel, Moses’ Torah, The Zaboor or Psalms of David, among others and revere and honor them all. The Quran (the revealed word of God) and the Hadith, the speech of the Prophet constitute the instruction-set for Muslims to conduct their lives.
